Kate
has recently finished filming the movie Flyboys
starring Jean Reno, directed by Tony
Bill which will be released later this year. She was also
seen as the murderess in a recent episode of Heart
Beat.
Being the 2nd cousin of Paul McCartney
(Kate's grandmother Annie McCartney and
Paul's Father Jim McCartney were brother
and sister) meant that Kate was born into a long musical tradition..references
to her parents Bett and Mike
Robbins are in the Beatles anthology-
(Mike being the first "show business person" that John
Lennon and Paul McCartney knew when
they were teenagers- booking them to perform in his pub and billing
them as The Nurk twins) Paul
McCartney employed Kate as a backing singer many years later
on the album Press To Play.
When Kate Robbins set out on the road to
success back in the early eighties she was primarily a singer and represented
the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in
1980 as part of the group Prima Donna (they
came third!!) ..then in 1981 Kate had a
number 2 hit which sold half a million copies with the song More
Than In Love. Her own TV series followed featuring her brother
Ted Robbins . This was The
Kate and Ted Show, follwed by The Kate
Robbins Show where Kate showed her array of vocal skills as an
impressionist. It was around this time that she became a regular voice
on Spitting Image.
Kate has been a regular guest on the Radio2
Saturday show Jammin' where she enjoyed
playing the piano and working with Roland Rivron,
and her collaboration with Guy Pratt has
proved successful as she now directs Guy's one man theatre show My
Bass and Other Animals (which starts this Monday 13th November
‘06 at the King’s Head in Islington) and is taking it to
the Edinburgh Fringe festival ( see www.guypratt.com
under 'links' for details).
Playing the strange "I Come From Urmston" Babs
in both series of Victoria Wood's Dinner
Ladies. Kate later went on to star in Victoria
Wood 's Big Fat Documentary
for BBC1. She can currently be heard in
the Radio 4 comedy/drama series Three
Off The Tee written by David Spicer.
